LIPOMA RESEARCH STUDY-STARTING

The Forum is designed to enable patients and others concerned with lipoma to interact with each other.

Lipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur as bulges under the skin. Since the only proven therapy for lipomas is surgery , collagenase injection represents a potential minimally invasive approach for humans which may be a therapeutic advantage over the current options.

LIPOMA RESEARCH STUDY-STARTING

Postby tpia35 » Mon Jun 23, 2014 12:00 pm

Do you have a benign fatty tumor under your skin? Benign (non-cancerous) lumps of fat are called lipomas. Many people have one or two and unfortunately, some people have many of them in various places all over their bodies. The only way to get rid of lipomas is surgery. But now there is a possible non-surgical treatment.

If you have fatty tumors under your skin and are a male or female between 18 and 75 years old, you may qualify to enter a research study. The study involves one injection of a study drug which is an enzyme (collagenase) and one injection of a placebo (no active ingredients) into the tumors. The collagenase has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat other medical conditions. There will be 8 visits over a 6-month period.

You will be required to undergo a medical examination and other tests including an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). The MRI will determine whether or not your lump is actually a lipomja and that it is benign. These tests and exams will be at no cost to you.
The study will be conducted by Dr Gerut’s office located at 1245 Colonial Road, Hewlett, New York. If you wish to learn more please call 516-295-2100.

Hi tpia35, is this trial still recruiting? What are the numbers you are looking for (20 people?). I read the trial details...is this trial Identifier: NCT02249052

Let us know at what stage the recruitment for this trial is at.

Thanks!

Hi, my name is Claudio, I'm 44, and I have over 100 lipomas spread throughout the stomach, back, arms and legs. I would love to participate in case studies and participate in treatment, for my self esteem is shattered with this problem.

I am a41yr old male with familiar lipomas. I believe I would be perfect for the study because they tend to grow in same area on opposite arms and legs. I live on LI NY, let me know what I need to do to sign up.

I am a 43 tr old male in Utah. I have about 40-50 lipomas of different sizes ranging from the size of a piece of rice to the size of a gold ball.

I have had many removed and would be interested in the trial if you are still considering participants.
